Laser Doppler Flowmetry - a Theoretical Framework
نویسندگان
چکیده
Laser Doppler Flowmetry (LDF) is a non-invasive method to estimate the blood perfusion in the microcirculation. The method was first introduced over 30 years ago and has undergone a continuous development since. This work presents a thorough theoretical framework of the technique. It is described in detail how the laser light interacts with the tissue and moving red blood cells, how the light forms a speckle pattern on the detector and how the frequency content of the formed speckle pattern can be used to estimate the blood perfusion. Hopefully, this will increase the understanding of the technique, leading to better perfusion estimates and new areas of application. متن کاملOn the equivalence and differences between laser Doppler flowmetry and laser speckle contrast analysis.
Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) and laser speckle contrast analysis (LASCA) both utilize the spatiotemporal properties of laser speckle patterns to assess microcirculatory blood flow in tissue. Although the techniques analyze the speckle pattern differently, there is a close relationship between them. We present a theoretical overview describing how the LDF power spectrum and the LASCA contrast c...
متن کاملLaser Doppler Flowmetry Time-frequency Analysis by the S-transform
The laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) technique is a non invasive method that measures the microvascular blood cell perfusion through tissue. It uses the principle of Doppler shifts. LDF signals are non stationary. As other physiological signals, the LDF ones need an appropriate method to be analyzed and the extraction of the microvascular activities dynamic evolution is not an easy task. For that ...
متن کاملPostocclusive Hyperemia Measured with Laser Doppler Flowmetry and Transcutaneous Oxygen Tension in the Diagnosis of Primary Raynaud's Phenomenon: A Prospective, Controlled Study
The aim of this study was to measure the sensitivity and specificity of transcutaneous oxygen tension and postocclusive hyperemia testing using laser Doppler flowmetry in patients with primary Raynaud's phenomenon. One hundred patients and one hundred controls were included in the study. Baseline microvascular blood flow and then time to peak flow following occlusion were measured using laser D...
متن کاملCerebral haemodynamics during experimental intracranial hypertension.
Intracranial hypertension is a common final pathway in many acute neurological conditions. However, the cerebral haemodynamic response to acute intracranial hypertension is poorly understood. We assessed cerebral haemodynamics (arterial blood pressure, intracranial pressure, laser Doppler flowmetry, basilar artery Doppler flow velocity, and vascular wall tension) in 27 basilar artery-dependent ...
